Every so often, a project comes along that shows exactly why we build what we build. The Scout House, designed by Jesse Bodine of Bodine White and Scout & Nimble, is one of those projects.
Bodine built this home as her own — the first time she got to lean fully into her own vision instead of a client’s. The result is a house meant to feel timeless: natural stone, brass that patinas with age, reclaimed wood with a story already in it. It’s a home built for how a family actually lives, not how a house photographs. And that philosophy is exactly where our appliances come in.
A Kitchen Built in Three Zones
Rather than one sprawling kitchen trying to do everything at once, Bodine designed hers in three distinct zones: a cooking and prep zone anchored by an eleven-foot island, a side kitchen for second-sink prep and quick grab-and-go moments, and a scullery just off the back for the heavy lifting.
That third zone is where our refrigerator drawers and ice maker live.
“This is the room that proves every square inch can do something for you,” Bodine writes. It’s a small footprint asked to do a lot: additional cold storage, ice on demand, pantry storage arranged in a U-shape, and a door straight to the garage for hauling in groceries.
Our undercounter refrigerator drawers were built for exactly this kind of space — an ergonomical refrigeration solution that tucks below the counter instead of competing for full-size wall space, so a hardworking room can stay open and uncluttered. Alongside them, our undercounter ice machine keeps a steady supply on hand without ever taking up room in the main kitchen.
Custom Color, Right Down to the Appliances
The detail we’re most proud of, though, is the finish.
“Because this room gets so much light, I went bold and intentional with a pop of color,” Bodine explains. “I matched the cabinetry to True Caliber’s olive finish and fittingly enough, brought in an organic olive wallpaper to complete the moment.”
Our Olive finish is one of our most popular in our palette of curated colors —a semi-neutral hue that has both warmth and freshness to it. We’re so honored that in this case, the cabinets, wallpaper, and room itself was inspired by this True Caliber finish.
It’s a small room by square footage. But as Bodine puts it, “it doesn’t have to be huge to be heavy-hitting.”
Why This Project Matters to Us
The Scout House is a good example of the kind of design we want our appliances to live inside of: rooms built for real life, finished with the same intention as the spaces around them, and made to age well.
Refrigeration and ice machines are utility, first and foremost — but that doesn’t mean they can’t be beautiful, too.
